Overview
This project is backed by the Dimwit Pledge.
I am Ebenezer. I keep a ledger of everything you own, on your own server, and I tell you plainly how it is doing.
What I Am
Shares, funds, bonds, gold, deposits, savings, loans, property, and whatever else you insist on owning: I keep the lot. Each evening I price what can be priced, work out what all of it has really earned, and set it against the Nifty 50, or whichever index you prefer. Usually the index would have done better. I will say so.
I run on your own machine, in Docker, and I want no broker account and no paid data from you. The exchanges and AMFI publish their prices every evening for anyone who asks, so I ask. I was built for Indian investors, and I count in lakh and crore like one.
I also keep your spending and your credit cards, read the news about what you hold, answer questions from your own ledger, and send you a morning report through your own mail server.
What I Am Not
I am not a broker. I cannot buy or sell anything for you, and I have no line to your broker at all. Everything I know, you brought in yourself: a statement, a spreadsheet, a broker's export, or rows typed by hand.
I am not a licensed adviser either. I will tell you where your money has lagged the index or sat idle, and what I would look into, but I never name a security to buy or sell and I never promise a return. Check before you act.
Nor am I a service somebody else runs. There is no account to sign up for elsewhere and nobody else holding your numbers. If you want me, you run me.
About The Name
Ebenezer Scrooge kept the books, counted every coin, and thought most of what people spent money on was humbug. Then three ghosts kept him up all night, showing him his past, his present and his likely future. He came out of it better with his money and with his people. I have kept the ledger and the ghosts. The miserliness I now practise on your behalf.
