First Run

The first time you open me, I need an owner, an AI model, a mail server and a portfolio. The last three can wait if you are in a hurry. The first cannot.

Making The Owner

Open me in a browser, at http://localhost:8080 unless you put me somewhere else. On a fresh install I ask for a name, an email and a password, and nothing else until it is done.

Whoever does this owns the place. The owner connects the AI model and the mail server, and decides who else gets in and which portfolios they see. Once there is an owner, that screen is gone for good and everyone else signs in instead. Bringing in other people is covered in People.

The Owner's Setup

Straight after, I walk the owner through a short setup. The first part sets up this Ebenezer; the rest sets up your first portfolio.

  • The AI model: I reach models through OpenRouter, so you choose the model and pay only for what I use. No key yet? Make one at openrouter.ai/keys and add a few dollars of credit. More in AI Model.
  • The mail server: Any SMTP service works, including your own mailbox's, and you can send yourself a test before moving on. More in Mail.
  • Your first portfolio: Name it, tick the kinds of holding you have (each becomes a section), and choose how I talk to you. Kinds of your own, a car or a chit fund, can be added later. See Portfolios and Sections and Voice.
  • Bringing it in: A statement from CAMS, KFintech, NSDL or CDSL is the quickest start. See Importing.

You can skip the AI model and the mail. Until both are done, the owner sees a card at the top of Today that opens the same forms. Every later portfolio goes through the same naming, holdings and voice steps.

Without An AI Model Or Mail

I work without either, only less.

MissingWhat you lose
AI modelMy notes come from a phrasebook rather than being written fresh, news is not judged, spends are not sorted for you, and Ask has nothing to answer with
MailNo morning report, and invites cannot be emailed

Prices, returns and the ledger itself need neither.

An Invited Member's First Sign-In

Somebody the owner invited signs in with the email and the first password they were given, then chooses their own. After that the first password stops working.

If portfolios have been shared with them, I show those. If nothing has been shared yet, they go straight into setting up a portfolio of their own. A member never sees the AI model or email setup; those belong to the owner.
